It's almost time to say goodbye to beautiful Japan. We are at the tale end of our trip and squeezing in as much as we can before we say "see you later".
There were some destinations that was on our list to visit in Nara & Kyoto. Starting in Kyoto, there's the Fushimi Inari Shrine.
At the very back of the shrine's main grounds is the entrance to the torii gate-covered hiking trail, which starts with two dense, parallel rows of gates called Senbon Torii ("thousands of torii gates").
The torii gates along the entire trail are donations by individuals and companies, and you will find the donator's name and the date of the donation inscribed on the back of each gate. The donation amount starts around 400,000 yen for a smaller gate and increases to over one million yen for a large gate.
Nara, Japan is known for many things but what we were really interested in seeing are the deer that bow to greet you! Yes. I was as shocked as you are reading this. Deer bow in Japan, in exchange for food and respect. The park is called Nara Deer Park. There are hundreds of deer all around the park, that are friendly and harmless. You're allowed to feed them the crackers that are provided to you by the park staff. You can watch our reel on instagram our visit to Nara Deer Park in awe of these beautiful animals.
Stay tuned for our final volume of Tamiko In Tokyo ... Vol. 9!
