The anticipated Tokyo photoshoot is finally here! We knew when this trip was in the making Tamiko wanted a photoshoot in Shinjuku Tokyo, for the "lights, camera, ACTION!" vibe, taking in all the liveliness it has to offer. Tamiko knew immediately, no one other than Scander Aidoudi "the one and only" (how he introduced himself when we first met in Paris), would be the photographer for the job. You can view our blog post Photographer Spotlight: Scander Aidoudi introducing the Parisian Photographer that was hired for the Paris Photoshoot. Scander didn't disappoint then and he certainly didn't disappoint now. Our schedules permitted us to be in Japan at the same time, and Tamiko wanted to take full advantage of this opportunity for the results you'll see below.
When in Japan, do as the Japanese locals do! We had to experience one of the Izakaya Alleyways in Shinjuku Tokyo. A photoshoot was a must during the evening hours, with lit Japanese lanterns and nostalgic atmosphere.
Izakaya is a Japanese style gastropub where people enjoy drinking and eating. It’s similar to a bar/pub but more like a casual restaurant. There are numbers of Izakaya in Japan as many as restaurants, and it’s where people gather after-work or weekends to catch-up. Most of Izakaya are very cozy and casual, and some of them are tiny, non-franchised and long-established with very rustic and old-fashion atmosphere.
One of the popular alleyways, that have become a large tourist attraction, is Omoide Yokochō. It's a cluster of 100 or more small taverns. They're in a grid of narrow passageways just north of Tokyo's Shinjuku Station. Squeeze in next to businessmen on their way home after a long day in the office.
Watch our reel on instagram as we walk through Omoide Yokochō.
Tamiko really wanted to standout but blend in with Tokyo lit up, in Shinjuku. The attire was cobalt blue, florescent orange and soft yellow, blending in with the background. Shinjuku is busy and alive any time of day, almost reminding us of Times Square in New York City.
We didn't get to experience the famous Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo's iconic intersection. It is completely organized chaos, the sprawling scramble intersection just outside Shibuya Station is an embodiment of Tokyo itself: action in all directions.
Shinjuku made us feel like it could be a similar experience, pictured below.
Another fun photoshoot down in the books with Scander! You can find him on instagram, as he's an international globetrotter with photography and inspiration from around the world.
Stay tuned for Vol. 5 - Vol. 9 ...
